Microsoft’s Answer to a Global Management Development Dilemma Session Description –
How could Microsoft build a global learning and performance-based solution and successfully land it in the business? What type of program could provide new managers with the guidance and support they needed to ramp up fast? How could learning be integrated so managers could stay focused on one of their core responsibilities as a people manager?
Come and examine the approach Microsoft designed and implemented for current as well as new managers to translate management excellence practices into action while developing a worldwide, scalable program that meets the needs of local management and training (readiness) professionals who will lead the strategy. The “practices” define exemplary management performance and the “delivery mechanism” uses a structured on-the-job learning experience that is customizable and innovative, leveraging the latest technology available from the manager’s desktop with OneNote. The development content is defined by a process and aligns with core management competencies supported by electronic job aids, tools, and resources to help managers further their development. The job aids are the cornerstone of each task and are specifically developed to drive behavior change. During this session, the speakers will demonstrate the ramp-up learning program as you experience the solution from the manager’s point of view. You won’t want to miss this engaging session and learn how Microsoft is ramping up more than 6,000 managers over the next few years using this strategy. As an extra bonus, hear from a frontline Microsoft manager who has taken on the challenge of bringing the practices and this learning solution into the business, along with strategies to implement and establish management excellence in your company.
Learning Objectives - Replicate strategies to scale a program using the OneNote Notebook directly from the manager’s desktop. Apply lessons learned from this case study to your organization. Determine your organization’s readiness and the potential ROI of investing in a performance support strategy and the technology used to support the implementation.
